Veteran newscaster and accomplished international journalist of repute ,Siju Alabi, has been conferred with Erelu Baaroyin of Ilawo Kingdom Abeokuta, Ogun State
The widely travelled broadcaster and international award winner of repute was confered with the award by HRM. Oba( Prof) Alexander Olusegun Macgegor, the Olu of Orile Ilawo Abeokuta Ogun State
The highly profile event, which was held on Wednesday,11th September,2024, at the palace of the Oba, was attended by who is who in society within Abeokuta Ogun State and outside the state
Siju Alabi, who was confered with the title based on her dexterity in her broadcasting carrier that spanned over 35 years, was full of joy.
Siju Alabi has been in media for 35 years until last year, and she had served in different capacities as a reporter, a newscaster, and also as a general manager at Lagos Television
" Having served for 35 years in broadcasting definitely I am definitely on my way out as a civil servant. I now have a YouTube channel where I do interview the program is called " Think Nigeria " the program is to celebrate trailblazers, unsong heroes of Nigeria at home and in diaspora, so I am always on the tube"
Siju Alabi got her first experience in broadcasting in USA, before she returned to Nigeria for her NYSC where she served at NTA, then left the country once again, came back again then worked with Channels Television, Minaj International, Super Screen before she finally worked as General Manager of Lagos Television
" I have always been an electronics media person and versatile in news reading," she said
Though not without her challenges, Siju Alabi could recollect at the highest point in the course of her duty
" Channels Television was my highest. I did a lot of work with professionals who were guiding me. It was a tailor that polished my career. I was able to do a lot of things at channels Television. We are given the opportunity to do many things, and it was at channels Television that I won lots of awards , as Best Newscaster, as Best Presenter and so on .
Another one is Lagos Television, where I come in as Director of News and Current Affairs, years after I became General Manager for five years . I think that is another height in my career because they allow me to express myself, to nurture a list of fresh minds.
Despite all her achievements, she still has some challenges along the way
" Bomb blast in Ikeja happened to be one of my challenges as a reporter. I can't remember the year now, but the coverage of the bomb blast was very challenging. "
No doubt Siju Alabi has paid her dues as far as journalism is concerned and so the befitting conferement as Baaroyin of Ilawo Kingdom Abeokuta Ogun State.
