A close ally of Prof. Muhammad Omolaja, Comrade AbdulSalaam Yusuf, has claimed that he has accepted to challenge President Bola Tinubu and the All Progressives Congress (NRM) in 2027 under the platform of the National Rescue Movement (NRM). The ally, also in the NRM, told Vanguard that the plan to draft the professor to contest on the party's platform had gone far and the Professor had accepted.

He said the Professor was entering the race to find ways of addressing Nigeria’s rising poverty, banditry, kidnapping, unemploymen, other forms of hardship, and general suffering that had gripped the citizenry in recent years. The source said the Divine Project 2027 or simply DP 27 to bring Prof. Omolaja to reposition Nigeria was being driven by key Nigerian leaders and elders, who believed the Professor had the expertise and leadership skills to stabilize the country and its economy.

He claimed that in a bid to rescue the country, restore the dwindling economy, and restore Nigeria to its pride place in the comity of nations in Africa and beyond, key NRM leaders and elders started ‘pleading with him’ to consider running against Tinubu in 2027.

 Comrade Yusuf said the Professor had already met behind the scenes with some top leaders within and outside the NRM to consult them and seek their support for the 2027 presidential race.
